Faith Ann Laughlin, Ed.D. joined the School of Education & Psychology at Southern Adventist University in 2009, after spending 17 years in the Seventh-day Adventist educational system in California, Maryland, and Pennsylvania,
encompassing grades K-12. During two of those years, shedeveloped a Learning Resource Center and taught freshman English at a Seventh-day Adventist boarding school. A one-room school in Pennsylvania filled another year of her career.
She also taught Spanish in Loudoun County Public Schools (Virginia) for six years. Two additional years found her in the Central Administrative
Offices of that county as Foreign Language Specialist. Brainstorming more effectiveteaching strategies, creative thinking, innovative ideas, all excite her imagination. While teaching at Southern Adventist University, Dr. Laughlin divided her time between teaching courses, advising students, and supervising student teachers. She believes strongly in community service, serving on the Lester Coon Adventist School board as Board member for 11 years of which 5 were spent as board chair. She has occasionally joined the Apison Allies (Pathfinders) and the Teen Sabbath School on their forays.
Professional affiliations have included the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), and the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) as well as Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) with special interest memberships in Assessment, the Tennessee Council for Exceptional Children, the Division for Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Exceptional Learners, and the Teacher Education Division.
Dr. Laughlin retired from full-time teaching on May 31, 2023. She now fills her time with
family and friends, along with the occasional subbing, and other educational activities.
She tutors with a group of colleagues at Traveling Tutors of Chattanooga. She works
with a virtual high school that is affiliated with Homeschool Companion. She also works
with instructional coaching out of Andrews University.
